A Clean Canvas

I love spring. It's time to start thinking about my garden.

In the past, I haven't given it much thought, my garden being a hodgepodge of plants here and there. This year, however, I have a blank canvas, and a plan for the future.

I know what grows well here and what doesn't. It's interesting how in Humboldt County, depending upon which area you live in, different plants will do well. When we lived in Blue Lake, tomatoes were the crop to plant. Here in McKinleyville, the tomatoes just get moldy and die. Kale, however, does extremely well here, along with zucchini, which I pretty much think does well everywhere.

So, here is my canvas. It's not much, and yet this little garden plot will give me more produce than I know what to do with.

And now, the plan. Starts have been prepared. They are growing too fast, but the last frost I think is

close to behind us. Zucchini, Arugula, Fava Beans, Peas to start. Seed Potatoes have been purchased, as well as Asparagus Crowns.

Keep an eye for the progress that is to come. The BIG garden - the Saturday Gathering Garden - will be planned next.
