Quinta da Sousa

My husband’s family is from the Isle of Madera in Portugal. It’s hard, sometimes, to get much historical knowledge from the family, either because of family members passing or history being so difficult that no one wants to talk about it.

So, my husband is trying to reaffirm his heritage. We wanted a Portuguese name for our farm as a means of doing this. When we got the farm, we had many Portuguese words we could have chosen.

Fazenda… Rancho… Plantio… Quinta…

Quinta most accurately describes our farm – a farm more so than a ranch – a farm with trees and somewhat rolling hills. So, Quinta da Sousa was born.
