Take a Break

I'm not always one to listen to my own advice. I go, go, go, and rarely take the rest that I need. But, I'm becoming more aware of what my body needs, and I'm trying to listen better. I know there is someone out there that needs to hear this too.

It is ok to take a break. It is ok to rest. It is ok to not fill each and every moment of your day with something. It is ok to say no (No is a sentence all on its own. No.) - sometimes that no is to your own voice in your head.

Listen to your body. If you are tired, rest and take a nap. You do not have to do that extra cardio workout - newsflash, you do not have to only consider cardio for your weight loss journey - strength training will burn more stored fat and calories. But, on the flip side, if your body is saying that you need to release some energy, perhaps a good cycle class or Zumba is right for you.

Don't over do it. Seriously folks, I am speaking from experience of burn out on several occasion - DON'T OVER DO IT! know when to take a mental health day from work. Consider having lunch with yourself. Go for a walk with your pup. These are all things you can consider instead of shoving one more meeting into your already busy schedule. When we take on too many things in our lives, the stuff that is really important become less important by default. Our sleep suffers. Our relationships suffer. Our bodies break down - we become sick, injured, etc.

Take care of yourself - you have to be the one to go to the doctor on a regular basis, see your dentist, seek out physical therapy or massage therapy for work out injuries. No one else can do this for you.

I write this as I want to take a really huge break right now. Spending my days doing zoom for grad school for 8 hours a day, and working for my regular job on top of that for an additional 6, I'm at the screen for 14 hours of a 24 hour day! It's not healthy. To combat this, I take breaks throughout the day, walk with my chickens, play with my dogs. Animals have a magical way of lowering the blood pressure and creating a sense of calm. But these days are not sustainable, and over the weekend, I have purposely created space over the weekend - otherwise I might find myself in another sense of burnout.

I don't know about you, but I'm done with burnout. So, I hope you will join me in taking a break, taking care of our bodies, and working hard to not overdoing it. We have been given just one life. I choose to live it abundantly and I invite you to do so as well.

Minding my Macros - Changing the Mindset

I have been on the yo-yo diet journey for years. Three years ago, I looked in the mirror, and of course, didn't like what I saw. Immediately, I did what I've always done, found a fad diet that I could
